ARTS BALLET THEATRE OF FLORIDA ANOUNCES THE 2016-2017 SEASON


Miami, FL.- Concluding a spectacular season on June, 2016 and including the participation at The International Young Dancers Festival in Indonesia, Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida prepares its new 2016-2017 season with four programs summoning the best of international ballet works.


Under the artistic direction of Vladimir Issaev, the company is ready to embark on the season’s line up with rehearsals by Mid-August. The company’s impressive cast, presented repertoire and affordable ticketing have contributed to its key placement as one of South Florida’s top companies after 19 years of uninterrupted operations.


The selected programs of the upcoming season, embrace an array of pieces including those of Russian composer Prokofiev, French composer Ravel and some neoclassical works by our own local pride and master choreographer Vladimir Issaev in addition to international guests artists.


Program I: Dancing to Prokofiev and Ravel


Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Russian master composer Sergei Prokofiev with excerpts of ballets Stone Flower, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and a world premier by Issaev inspired in his first symphony. Mary Carmen Catoya and Daniel Sarabia, company principal dancers will lead first roles.

The program also includes the work of guest choreographer Miao Zong, to the beautifulBolero by Maurice Ravel.

Program II- The Nutcracker


A holiday classic, this yearly masterpiece will be showcased in Miami and Broward for all families’ enjoyment, with the original choreography by Vladimir Issaev. The ballet tells the story of Clara, who receives an unsuspected gift on Christmas Eve: The Nutcracker! The magic of this present allows the beautiful young lady to travel to the Land of Sweets after enduring an epic battle with the unique Rat King.

Issaev maintains the traditional Russian ballet while implementing his own choreographic style, developed on his constantly evolving dancing troop. Leading today by principal dancer Venezuelan Mary Carmen Catoya, shining again as Sugarplum Fairy and alternating this protagonist roll with Lillian Hill and Hinano Eto. Opposite principal lead are Daniel Sarabia and Ramil Bagmanov rotating the roll of the Cavalier.

Program III – Chipollino


One of the most enchanting ballet characters returns to South Florida to entertain adults and children alike. Chipollino is a ballet consisting of two acts with a choreography by Issaev. It is inspired in the music by the Russian composer Karen Khachaturian and is based in the children story of Italian writer Gianni Rodari. The ballet narrates the adventures of alive fruits and vegetables who live in the Kingdom of Limonia. Chipollino is a mischievous little onion in a village where all dwellers are vegetables, suffering the despicable actions of the bitter King Lime. This ballet represents not only a children story but also expresses a social protest and enhances the importance of friendship through difficult moments. The beauty of this ballet is accentuated by the colorful costumes designed by Jorge Gallardo.

Program IV- Spring Gala


A performance that without a doubt will crown the conclusion of another season of triumphs where Issaev will put on stage pieces of classic and neo-classic repertoires that only high caliber dancers can execute. On this occasion the selection includes Pas de Deux works and some neo-classic pieces, originals of the company’s Artistic Director. As an innovative element this year the Gala will also rely on the participation of international choreographers and dancers invited specially to summit the 2016-2017 season.
